Who are we?

Since its foundation, Aikido Tarragona has operated as a self-managed, non-profit association dedicated to the promotion of this martial art.

Through our connection with the Arashi group, we are officially affiliated with the Hombu Dojo in Tokyo. We are one of the few centers in Tarragona with this direct international affiliation.

Our philosophy views Aikido as a tool for personal evolution. Through honest practice and mutual respect, we help students strengthen their bodies, cultivate their minds, and gain self-confidence, all while learning to respect the opponent.

We want anyone who visits Aikido Tarragona to enjoy a shared and enriching learning environment. Our doors are open to everyone throughout the year, and there is no registration fee.

If you are interested in trying it out, come meet us or get in touch. It will be a pleasure to share our passion with you!

What is Aikido?

Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art that offers a unique path of self-defense and human growth. Created in the early 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba (known to practitioners as O-Sensei or "Great Teacher"), Aikido was born from the synthesis of ancient samurai schools with a philosophy of peace and non-violence.

Unlike other combat sports, there is no competition in Aikido. The goal is not to defeat others, but to overcome our own limitations. Its technique is based on the principle of non-resistance: instead of clashing with the attacker's force, the aikidoka uses circular and fluid movements to redirect the attack and neutralize it through throws or joint locks.

Why practice it?

Defense without aggression: You learn to protect yourself without the need to harm the other person.

For everyone: Since it does not rely on physical strength or muscle mass, it can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age or physical build.

Mental balance: It helps reduce stress, improves concentration, and fosters a serene attitude towards conflict.

At Aikido Tarragona, we follow the legacy of the Ueshiba family, seeking harmony between body and mind in every training session. It is a discipline where cooperation with your partner is the key to learning and growing together.
